Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
