The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Video review systems will make its debut at Wimbledon this year.
Players will gain the right to challenge specific rulings from the chair umpire, echoing the protocol currently in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the umpire to re-examine other situations, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can request.
Case in Point
A recent case took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
